
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police say that an arrest has been made in a weekend stabbing.
Officers were alerted to a man walking with blood on his clothes just before 9 a.m. on Sunday at Clay and Washington.
Officials did not release many details at the time – but said that the man was taken to the hospital and has critical injuries.
Now, police say that 58-year-old Michael Martin is facing a charge of attempted murder in the case. Details were not given however, officials say that he was picked up on July 4.
The FWPD released the following:
On July 3rd, 2022 at approximately 0852 hours, FWPD responded to the area of 505 E. Washington Blvd. with an attempt to make contact with a male laying in the roadway. It was later determined the male was suffering from a stab wound and was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. FWPD Homicide Unit arrested Michael Martin (DOB 02/03/1964) on July 4th, 2022 for a charge of Attempted Murder with the assistance of FWPD Gang Unit. He is now facing a charge of attempted murder.
Initially, police released this statement:
On July 3rd, 2022 at approximately 8:52AM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of Clay St and E Washington Blvd, regarding an adult male walking in the area with blood on his clothes. FWPD arrived on scene and located the male, possibly suffering from being stabbed. Responding officers rendered aid, until the arrival of medics who later transported the male to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The FWPD Homicide Unit and ASU(Air Support Unit) were called out to the scene in order to collect evidence and further investigate the incident. This incident remains under investigation by FWPD Homicide Unit and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
