RUSH CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police are investigating a motorcycle crash in Rush County that has claimed the life of 50-year-old Steven Hockmuth of Rushville.
He was found unconscious and unresponsive after crashing his bike around 11:30 a.m. Sunday near County Road 700 North and County Road 700 West.
Hockmuth’s body was in a drainage ditch and he had not been wearing a helmet.
Investigators add alcohol is believed to have been a factor.
Indiana State Police released the following:
A single-vehicle motorcycle crash claimed a man’s life this morning in the northern part of Rush County. Around 11:30 a.m., Indiana State Police Dispatch reported a serious crash involving a motorcycle near County Road 700 N and County Road 700 W. When Master Trooper Eric Downey arrived he found a man unconscious and unresponsive in the drainage ditch east of County Road 700 W.
Preliminary investigation determined the man was riding a motorcycle northbound on County Road 700 W. The rider failed to navigate the curve and ran off County Road 700 W and down into the drainage ditch. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and no other injuries.
The motorcyclist was identified by the Rush County Coroner’s Office, as Steven William Hockmuth, 50, of Rushville, Indiana Notification has been made to the family.
The Indiana State Police was also assisted by Carthage Fire Department, Raleigh EMS, and Davis Towing. There is no further information to be released.
