FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Allen County Public Library joins libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card.
From borrowing books, e-books, and audiobooks to getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending a book club or story time, a library card helps everyone do more of what they enjoy. All without stretching their budget.
ACPL representatives released the following:
There’s something for everyone at the ACPL, and signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning for everyone.
“The millions of items in our collection, the vast array of expertise available via our librarians, the thousands of programs we host each year, and the incredible connections we spark every day all begin with a free Allen County Public Library card,” says Executive Director Susan P. Baier. “Of all the cards in your wallet, I promise, this one is the most valuable!”
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, libraries work together in a national effort to draw attention to library cards as an entry point to lifelong learning and discovery, particularly for children.
“When you see a child get their first library card, you see them light up,” says Baier, a former children’s librarian herself. “Children learn through play and stories. And when you give them a library card, you hand them the keys to truly unlock a world of potential. At the ACPL, we consider ourselves privileged to come alongside parents as they guide their children in discovering who they are and who they will be.”
Library Card Sign-up Month will last through September. ACPL library cards are available at no cost to all Allen County residents, as well as, educators or students who work or attend school in Allen County. More information can be found here.
