For the next few days, Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin calls for not a lot of precipitation across the Hoosier state, but we’ll continue to see very strong winds.
“This time though the winds are going to be more north and northwest, that’s behind this strong low that exited out here the last couple of days. What that does is give us a chance for some lake effect cloud cover. This is more of a story in the northern part of the state than anywhere else, but hey, with winds this strong lake effect clouds can make it a lot further south than you think. The moisture that’s associated with them I think will be more of a Saturday story and will mostly be within the shadows of Lake Michigan…we’re talking north western and north central parts of the state could see a few spits and sprinkles on Saturday. Mostly it’s a strong wind scenario for Friday and Saturday. The winds will back down a little on Sunday and that should allow for better sunshine and it also allows for us to have a day that we can keep our hat on rather than chasing it into the next county.”
According to Martin, a strong southwest flow is coming up this week.
“A warm front lifts through early Monday morning. A few spits and sprinkle associated with that near the Michigan and Indiana line, but otherwise we are sunny, dry, and warm all week long. Excellent chance to be out in the field to finish things up this week. The winds are going to be a little bit strong early but I do think we get back to normal wind conditions as we get into the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday time frame. It’s the initial warm up and the initial temperature change that will really fuel winds the early part of the week.”
He’s saying we could see a little bit of moisture for the following weekend.
“On Saturday the 8th we see hit and miss scattered showers, about 60-70% coverage across the Hoosier state (anywhere from a few hundredths to maybe 3 or 4 tenths). On Sunday colder air comes in and that may ring out a little bit more moisture but only a few hundredths to a tenth or two and coverage of about 30% of the state. Either way the weekend is going to have a few challenges before we warm right back up for the following week, the week of the 10th looks very warm for Monday. And Tuesday very dry, honestly pretty windy. Then we’ll see a massive temperature change the second half of that week. Not much moisture to ring out in that temperature change, but we’ll get back closer to where we should be this time of the year.”
