Farbest Foods in Jasper, Indiana, has expanded its global reach thanks to a strong international partnership.
With support from the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council, also known as USAPEEC, and Indiana’s corn and soybean farmers through checkoff funding, Farbest has teamed up with Mexican meat processor Proboca to produce a turkey label called “Dos Familia.”
According to Indiana Soybean Alliance Board Member, Jenna Scott, a farmer from Muncie, “Proboca has become a champion for dark meat turkey in Mexico. They have started adding it into value added products where they prepackaged and put it into sauces, where a family can just throw that in a skillet and cook it, and it has become its own market, really, and introduces another protein that is of a better value to some more price conscious consumers.”
The collaboration is already showing success in Mexico, creating new demand for high-quality Indiana turkey products. But the benefits don’t stop there. As turkey exports grow, so does the demand for the feed that sustains them…primarily corn and soybean meal grown by Indiana farmers.
Scott adds, “You see Indiana brands in grocery stores across the country, and it just really hits home how important those markets are for us to stay viable. When you see meat from South America, you see meat from Asia, you want to be there, just as prominent as those other countries are.”
That means this international partnership is delivering a full-circle impact: supporting Indiana poultry production, strengthening export markets, and driving additional demand for the state’s corn and soybean growers.
“We’re not just moving turkeys, we’re keeping Indiana Hoosiers employed, and we’re keeping farmers sustainable. And economically viable. And being able to do what we can do,” said Scott.
By building relationships beyond U.S. borders, Farbest Foods and its partners are helping ensure Indiana agriculture remains competitive and connected in a growing global marketplace.
