As National Agriculture Week unfolds, McDonald’s of Greater Indiana is turning the spotlight on Hoosier farmers, celebrating the people behind every meal.
“It’s pretty obvious that we’re not going to be able to do what we could do without those farmers and their dedication to making sure they give us the highest quality ingredients and keeping food on our tables,” says Paul Jedele, who co-owns nine McDonald’s franchise restaurants around Greencastle, Crawfordsville, and west-central Indiana.
He says the McDonald’s system thrives on buying its products from Indiana’s farmers.
“One of my favorite things that McDonald’s does is that we take 33 million eggs from local farmers right here in Indiana—that means when you go to McDonald’s for that Sausage Egg McMuffin, we crack that egg fresh and that egg came from Indiana. That’s a really cool thing to know that it that it’s that fresh, local product from Indiana farmers,” says Jedele.
In addition, the McDonald’s system sources from Indiana 1.8 million gallons of milk and 5.9 million pounds of pork.
“We are directly purchasing — through just our food producers, logistic companies, and manufacturers — $412 million across Indiana’s supply chain,” he says.
Jedele thanks Indiana’s farmers—not just during National Ag Week, but every week of the year!
“We all experience how vital the agriculture industry is to success of the state, so this is a great time to step back and recognize that our farmers have committed their lives to serving and to providing for all of us,” he says. “This is not just a once-a-year kind of thing—it’s something that we’re always thankful for.”
