Agbioscience careers are getting a closer look from Indiana college students thanks to a program from AgriNovus Indiana called Field Atlas.
The career exploration platform is designed to connect students with real-world opportunities in Indiana’s growing agbioscience industry. Through company tours, job shadowing opportunities, online career tools, and peer ambassador programs, students can explore careers ranging from chemistry and biology to data science and engineering.
According to Karis Witte, who oversees the Field Atlas program, last Thursday welcomed 20 new students to the program.
She said, “We kicked off our program yesterday with a networking dinner, where we invited a lot of industry professionals to come sit down with company tour participants and have candid conversation and share their experiences. And then today, we’ve had the opportunity to tour Elanco and United Animal Health. We welcomed 20 students from around eight different campuses, all from different backgrounds and areas of study. It’s been a really eye opening and fantastic experience.”
Witte says the goal is to help students understand how agriculture intersects with science, technology, and innovation.
She added, “There’s so many indirect correlations between work in Stem or business or engineering, and finance. There’s opportunities for students from every major in the ag biosciences.”
According to AgriNovus, Indiana is home to more than 97-thousand agbioscience jobs and more than 10-thousand agribusiness companies statewide.
Field Atlas was launched in 2020 and continues expanding its outreach to universities and employers across Indiana.
