The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) is inviting residents to capture the people, places and traditions that define one of the state’s most important industries as part of its annual agriculture photography contest.
The competition, now in its 19th year, opens for submissions throughout June and aims to highlight the work of Indiana farmers while showcasing the state’s rural landscapes, conservation efforts and agricultural destinations.
ISDA officials said the contest is open to all Indiana residents and encourages entries that reflect the diversity of agriculture across the state.
“Indiana’s agricultural landscape showcases some of the most beautiful places in our state,” Lamb said in a statement. “We’re excited to see photo submissions that capture those moments and highlight the people and scenes that make Indiana agriculture so special.”
Agriculture remains one of Indiana’s largest economic sectors, with millions of acres devoted to crops and livestock production. State leaders say the contest provides an opportunity to highlight not only farming operations but also the people and communities connected to them.

Photographs may be entered in four categories: On the Farm, which features farm buildings, equipment and daily agricultural activities; Faces of Agriculture, highlighting the people who produce food, fuel and fiber; Agritourism, focusing on destinations such as orchards, wineries and farmers markets; and Conservation, showcasing landscapes, waterways and wildlife.
Ten winners will be selected, including two entries from each category and two overall winners. The winning photographers will be recognized during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair and will receive certificates from Beckwith and Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Don Lamb.
Winning photographs also will be displayed throughout the year in offices affiliated with the lieutenant governor’s office in Indianapolis.
Participants may submit up to five digital photographs. Entries will be judged on creativity, composition and how well they represent their chosen category.
Submissions must be received by 5 p.m. Eastern time on June 30.
