Women farmland owners and agricultural decision-makers are invited to gather in Noblesville next week for a Women4theLand Learning Circle.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, and is open to women who own farmland or play a role in managing agricultural land across Hamilton, Tipton, and surrounding counties.
“Women4theLand is a program designed specifically to reach Indiana women: women landowners, farmers, growers, producers. And we’ve been around for about 12 years. We specifically work with conservation organizations around the state, and we’re delivering information to women, conservation information to empower women to take good care of their land.” Says Heather Bacher, State Coordinator for Women4theLand
The Learning Circle is the first in a three-part educational series sponsored by The Nature Conservancy with support from the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District. Bacher says the goal is to provide practical conservation information and encourage peer-to-peer learning that can benefit both farm productivity and natural resources.
She adds, “Historically, women have been underserved in the ag community. This program was developed out of Iowa about 20 years ago, and we specifically get together as women because we know women when we’re alone, we kind of communicate differently. Talk with each other a little bit more open than we can be in a mixed audience.”
