COLUMBUS, Ohio (ADAMS) – The Bureau of Motor Vehicles says over 230,000 Ohioans must turn in their old license plates in exchange for new ones.
On Monday, the BMV said license plates in the Ohio Gold series need to be removed from circulation for public safety.
The Gold Series features dark blue letters and numbers on the background of a white-gold gradient with the word Ohio on top and were issued from 1997 through 2001.
The BMV says the plates have exceeded their useful life as the numbers and letters are difficult to read after being degraded by two decades of weather.
