Indiana farmers looking for practical ideas to strengthen their operations will have the opportunity to learn directly from fellow producers during the upcoming Purdue Farm Management Tour.
Hosted by Purdue University’s Center for Commercial Agriculture and Purdue Extension, this year’s tour will take participants to two Harrison County farms known for their strong management practices.
According to Michael Langemeier, Professor of Agriculture Economics, “The Purdue Farm Management Tour is different from a typical field day because we focus on management questions. Really we’re focusing on the management aspects of their operation, which makes their operation unique.”
Each stop includes an interview session where farm operators will provide an inside look at their businesses, discussing everything from day-to-day management decisions to adapting their operations in today’s challenging farm economy.
Langemeier adds, “It’s useful to have farmers discuss what makes their operation unique. What are some of the management tips that they can provide that gives them a leg up with the competition? We usually focus on what are the duties of the members of the farm, different operators that might be on the farm. What do they contribute to the farm. And is there some things that this farm does that maybe could be applied on other farms?”
The tour gives producers a chance to ask questions, compare ideas, and hear firsthand what strategies are working from some of Indiana’s top farm business managers.
