FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says alcohol and speed were factors in a crash that shut down I-69 for hours on Sunday.
Just before 7 p.m., police say that a vehicle collided with a pickup truck close to the 314-mile marker, just before Auburn Road.
When officers arrived, three people were stuck in the pickup, which had rolled over. They were able to get out and were checked out at a local hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle, a woman, was out of her sedan.
Everyone is expected to recover. Police think the woman was driving recklessly at the time of the crash.
It is still under investigation.
The FWPD released the following:
On August 23, 2026, at 6:48pm, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of an injury accident on I-69 Northbound near the 314 mile marker. Initial information indicated a sedan had collided with a pickup truck, causing the pickup truck to roll over.
Officers arrived and located three male occupants in the pickup truck who were pinned because of the damage. The sedan was occupied by an adult female driver who was out of the vehicle. The adult female driver was in good condition. The three males from the pickup truck were taken to the hospital for evaluation and later released.
Information gathered from witnesses at the scene indicated the female driver was driving recklessly and tried to change lanes when she collided with the pickup truck. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors; charges are pending.
One lane of traffic is currently open as the crash scene is processed and cleaned up. The remaining lanes are expected to be open within the hour.
At this time there is nothing further; the identity of the adult female driver may be released if/when formal charges are filed.
