FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says it believes alcohol was a factor in a crash Monday afternoon that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.
Police responded to a single-vehicle crash near Broadway and Illsley Drive around 2:05 p.m. on May 25, 2026. When officers arrived, they found an SUV partially off the road and up against a telephone pole. A man driving the SUV and a female passenger were both found inside the vehicle. Both were injured and taken to a local hospital, where medical staff later determined the woman’s injuries were life-threatening.
The FACT Team and Air Support Unit assisted with the investigation. Preliminary information shows the SUV was traveling southbound on Broadway when it went off the west side of the road just north of Illsley Drive. The SUV then struck a telephone pole near the edge of the roadway, causing the airbags to deploy.
Investigators say neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, and investigators are also looking into whether speed contributed to the crash and what caused the SUV to leave the roadway.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222, Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867, or submit an anonymous tip through the P3 Tips app.
