UPDATE (July 16, 2026):
The Fort Wayne Police Department says that an arrest was made quickly in a fatal shooting late Tuesday night.
Officers were initially called to a shooting on St. Joseph Boulevard, near Tennessee Avenue, just before midnight. Two victims were located in that area. One of them, found off Hillside Avenue, was identified as 65-year-old Kelvin Andre Topps. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bobby Underwood, 74, was arrested on Wednesday and is now facing several charges, including Murder. (See below for details)
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following on the victim:
The autopsy has been completed and the next of kin has been notified regarding the deceased individual who was found shot in the 1900 block of Hillside Avenue, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana on 07/15/2026, at about 0015. He has been identified as Kelvin Andre Topps, Male, Black, age 65, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was pronounced dead on scene by Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
Kelvin Andre Topps’s Cause of Death is Gunshot Wound of Chest and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
Kelvin Andre Topps is the 20th Homicide for Allen County in 2026.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
The FWPD released the following:
On July 14, 2026, at approximately 23:56 hours, Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of 1900 Hillside Ave. and 1400 St. Joseph Blvd. in regards to a shooting investigation. Officers arrived and located an adult male at each location suffering from gun shot wounds. Detectives with the FWPD Homicide Unit responded and conducted a criminal investigation.
During the investigation, FWPD Homicide Detectives identified Bobby Underwood, 74 years old, as a suspect in the shooting. Mr. Underwood was located in the 1400 block of St. Joseph Blvd. and was treated at a local hospital for his injury. He was taken into custody without incident and will be preliminarily charged with Murder, Felony Murder and Burglary.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Two men were hurt in an overnight shooting on St. Joseph Boulevard, near Tennessee Avenue. Just before midnight, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded and found a man with a gunshot wound, and a second victim was found a short time later.
Right now, we don’t know the condition of the victims. Police are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department are investigating a late-night shooting that left two men injured. Officers responded to the 1400 block of St. Joseph Boulevard, near Tennessee Avenue, at approximately 11:56 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers located one adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. A short time later, they found a second adult male, who was also suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are actively pursuing all available leads.
