FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say a wheelchair-bound pedestrian has been hit and killed by a vehicle in the 3200 block of East Coliseum Boulevard around 10 p.m. Sunday.
The man was found unconscious, and the SUV that hit him was on the scene with front-end damage. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was in an electric-powered wheelchair, was traveling in the middle of the road, and was hit from behind.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department released the following:
On September 7, 2026, at approximately 10:00 pm, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a traffic accident in the area of 3200 East Coliseum Blvd, where reports were a vehicle hit a pedestrian in a wheelchair.
Once Officers arrived, a male pedestrian was found unconscious, as well as an SUV with front end damage.
The Fort Wayne Fire Dept began lifesaving measures on scene along with medics.
The male pedestrian would be pronounced deceased a short time ater. E Coliseum Blv d was then shut down to all traffic.
Preliminary investigation indicates the SUV was traveling westbound on E Coliseum Blvd when t struck the pedestrian on an electricpowered wheelchair from behind, who was traveling down the middle of the oadway At this time, speed was not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team was notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. The FWPD Air Support Unit (ASU) is assisting with aerial documentation of the scene.
